Einleitung
Once a year, Zukunft Personal Europe puts job boards, ATS vendors, HR software providers and HR teams in the same halls at Koelnmesse in Cologne. In 2026 they met under one motto: Team Human x AI.
Kini's co-founder and CEO Fabian Scheib was there again, as he is every year. This throwback covers what the event was, what Kini did there, and the observations from Cologne that matter most if you run the systems that move jobs and applications between an ATS and its channels.
TL;DR
- What: Zukunft Personal Europe (ZPE) 2026, an HR trade fair and conference run by CloserStill Media Germany under the motto "TEAM HUMAN × AI".
- When and where: 15–17 September 2026 at Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany. The organiser reports 25,965 visitors, around 700 exhibitors, partners and sponsors, and 680 sessions on 22 stages.
- Kini's role: visitor. Co-founder and CEO Fabian Scheib attended with colleagues from the Kini team, as he does every year.
- Takeaway 1: The organiser's summary is that AI is changing how HR makes decisions, not only its processes. Speaker Kenza Ait Si Abbou called AI adoption a structural problem, not a skills problem.
- Takeaway 2: In the organiser's final report, job boards described a split market. Stepstone pointed to fewer people entering the labour market than leaving it, and HeyJobs to employers who face either too few applicants or too many.
- What's next: Kini exhibits at STAFFINGpro Expo on 21 October 2026 in Wiesbaden (booth C.08-C). ZPE returns to Cologne on 14–16 September 2027.
What was Zukunft Personal Europe 2026?
Zukunft Personal Europe (ZPE, also written ZP Europe) is the Cologne fair of Zukunft Personal, organised by CloserStill Media Germany GmbH. It follows the spring events Zukunft Personal Nord in Hamburg and Zukunft Personal Süd in Stuttgart. Its organiser describes it as "Europas führende Plattform für People & Organisational Performance" (Europe's leading platform for people and organisational performance, translated from German).
The 2026 edition ran under the motto "TEAM HUMAN × AI". In the organiser's words, the programme covered everything from AI and HR tech through recruiting, learning and skills to leadership, health and organisational development.

The HR Innovation Award 2026 in the Recruiting & Attraction category went to MADITA.ai.
What did Kini do at ZPE 2026?
Kini attended as a visitor. Fabian Scheib travelled from Berlin to Cologne on the opening day and posted on LinkedIn that morning:
Ich bin heute wie jedes Jahr auf der ZPE - daran ändert auch ein Schwan auf den Gleisen auf dem Weg von Berlin nach Köln nichts.
Fabian Scheib, Co-Founder and CEO of Kini, on LinkedIn, 15 September 2026
(Translated from German: "Like every year, I'm at ZPE today. Not even a swan on the tracks between Berlin and Cologne changes that.")
In the same post he wrote that he was looking forward to conversations about Team Human x AI and to meeting familiar and new faces. He was joined by colleagues from the Kini team. ZPE is a fixed date for Kini: Fabian's public posts also show him on his way to the fair in 2025 and announcing his visit to the 2023 edition.
The reason is simple: the kinds of companies Kini works with meet in these halls, from job boards and recruiting platforms to ATS and HR software vendors and the HR teams who use them. Among the central partners the organiser lists are HeyJobs, LinkedIn Germany, XING, rexx systems and SAP SuccessFactors.
What did the organiser take away from Team Human x AI?
The organiser's final report sums up the three days in one line: AI changes more than processes. It also changes how HR makes decisions, develops skills and manages change.
Two points from that report stood out for us.
Choosing tools has become a job of its own. With around 700 exhibitors, the organiser notes that the selection itself becomes a task: which solution fits which challenge? The new Guided Tours addressed exactly that by making selected AI applications directly comparable.
AI adoption is about structure. AI expert Kenza Ait Si Abbou of iamKenza called for a governance framework with clear rules, guardrails and responsibilities. Her conclusion, as quoted by the organiser:
„KI-Adoption ist kein Kompetenz-, sondern ein Strukturproblem."
Kenza Ait Si Abbou, iamKenza, quoted in the ZPE 2026 final report
(Translated from German: "AI adoption is not a skills problem but a structural one.")
What did job boards and recruiting platforms say in Cologne?
The final report includes statements from exhibitors. Three of them describe the market that job boards and ATS platforms are working in right now.
Maximilian Stottmeister, Senior Director Partner Sales at Stepstone Deutschland, described a labour market in fundamental transition:
„Erstmals kommen weniger Menschen neu in den Arbeitsmarkt als ausscheiden."
Maximilian Stottmeister, Stepstone Deutschland, quoted in the ZPE 2026 final report
(Translated from German: "For the first time, fewer people are entering the labour market than are leaving it.") He added that AI also creates an oversupply of candidates, which is why Stepstone focuses on better matching.
HeyJobs made a similar point from the employer side. Some employers still struggle to find applicants for shortage occupations, while others have to handle a surplus of applications efficiently. XING said it is continuing its transformation from social business networking into a job board.
For anyone who connects an ATS to these channels, that is a lot of movement at once: more AI tools, shifting channel strategies, and application volumes that swing in both directions.
Why does this matter for recruiting integrations?
Every new tool on the fair floor, whether an AI recruiter, a sourcing assistant or a new job board product, only works if jobs and applications flow reliably between it and the ATS. When the organiser says choosing tools is now a task of its own, the next task is keeping those tools connected once they are chosen.
That is the part Kini takes care of. Kini is a managed connectivity layer for recruiting: it connects applicant tracking systems, job boards and recruiting agencies, and operates the ATS integrations as an ongoing service. Monitoring, retries, recovery and connector maintenance are included. Jobs go out of the ATS to the channels, applications come back into the ATS with a sync status on every record, and the ATS stays the system of record. Our explainer on Managed Recruiting Connectivity sets out how this differs from a unified API or a general iPaaS.
If your channel mix includes Stepstone, XING or LinkedIn, our guide to connecting Personio to StepStone, Indeed, LinkedIn and XING shows where those connections usually break. You can check which systems Kini already connects on the integrations page.
